I am Legend... Not I Think

Finally took this weekend to watch I Am Legend, alone as usual. I was in anticipation that this will be a good movie as Will Smith is a rather good actor.

I Am Legend tells a story of a military viral doctor, Dr. Robert Neville and his quest for the cure that turned the city of New York into roaming bloodthirsty nocturnal carnivorous monster. Doesn't that ring a bell? Oh yes, in the not that long ago Resident Evil plot and it's many predecessors of similar movies.

His acting is excellent. I love his dog Sam (Samantha) too. Sadly it does seem rather odd to suddenly throw in a lady and a child, who seem so helpless in defending themselves and consider what such isolation and desperate environment can do to a person. Pretty unrealistic addition of new actors to save the story. Also I questioned why didn't the military in Vermont pick up anything from his daily broadcast?

Very weak story line. But at the very least, Robert wakes up from his notion of saving the world, and that he isn't alone. I guess his death isn't wasted afterall. A movie to watch when you really really have nothing left to do. Be prepared to be disappointed as I am.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 clouds.

Beauty World.. Cha Cha Cha!

On Saturday I went to watch BEAUTY WORLD at the Esplanade.

It is another fun filled musical by W!LD RICE Productions. The story tells of a young girl by the name of Ivy Chan Poh Choo who travelled all the way from Malaysia (Batu Pahang) to Singapore, more specifically to Singapore's Beauty World, in search of her real parentage details.

She was exposed to the lust and rust of the cabaret night club world. The lucky girl has good friend who is always there to help her, and narrowly escaping some misfortune. Of course, she found out about her parentage history at the end of the play.

I'm impressed by the stage play and costume. It is quite worth watching although the plot is simplistic and predictable. Then again, we audience have become more sophisticated. This 20 years old production still exudes it's own charm.

Maiden Voyage into The Twilight Zone

One the of taboo topics in a typically conservative society is gay & lesbian. I have a couple of friends who aren't straight, but I do not see them as being deviant either. This is their lifestyle and attitude and as a friend, I fully support their decision to pursue their happiness.

On an extremely cheeky mood, I went to a Lesbian bar with a female friend last evening. I have been to a gay bar (in Singapore) a few years back and have yet to see the lesbian night scene. The bar was kind of empty and crowd boring. After a couple of hours, we switched location and drove over to Zouk where there was a competition for the beauties and butches. Taking a peek at the crowd, they are way too young. Me and my friend ended up having a cup of milo and roti prata before we hit home.

To be truthful, I was quite disappointed. Not too many pretty girls or butches to oogle. Sigh... But I'm still keen to see any happening gay/lesbian places in Singapore. But I wonder when will I get such an opportunity again.

Nothing beats my 1st encounter at Castro Ave, a popular artsy-fartsy district in San Francisco USA. The gay/lesbian community there is so interesting. Well, I know I enjoyed being entertained by the gay waiter inside this gay cafe where I was having a nice cup of hot chocolate. Such a cute looking boy. Much like Boy George without the makeup and way way younger. Mmm... too bad he ain't interested in me.

Gather of Laughter

I love my secondary schoolmates. We have all known each other for like 18 years, since we are all 13 years old kiddos. Till today, we will still meet each other on a regular basis despite some of us have already started a family, remain single or becoming single.

It is great to see such wonderful friendship and support from each other. We always have a lot of fun and a lot of memories what we have shared in the past. Some of them we prefer to keep as memory and not to be further discussed. We were young and we all did silly things but we had our fun, and will always remember it.

I love you guys! HUG to you all wonderful people who are part of my life. I thank you for being there for me in the past, in the present and in the future.

Christmas Service

For the first time in 31 years of my life, I attended my first Christian Christmas Service. It was quite enjoyable. To the devotee, I salute you in your loving and giving spirit this festive season.

I do have to admit that being a typical anti-christian, I am not ready to accept god yet. I am still the most important person in my life and my own world, I will not compromise or share my throne.

Merry Christmas to all and PEACE on earth! Feliz Navidad!

Christmas Party with NEW Friends

I was invited to a party by a christian colleague/friend. In the spirit of fun and giving, I accepted her kind invitation. It has been a while since I am out meeting new people and especially now that I have just regained my singlehood.

I had a wonderful time. I met a bunch of wonderful, fun, and loving people of different ages, both girls and guys. We played a couple of ice breaker (games) to get to know each other more, before we proceed to the nice feast which we have all waiting for.

I enjoyed myself very much. I got to know quite a number of new friends. But I am ashamed to say that there are just so many of them that I can't remember a lot of their names. My name, however, is much easier for them to remember.

I'm pretty proud of myself and amazed that I managed to blend and confidently open myself and speak to people like I have known them for a long time. It has been a long time since I was in my sociable mode. I love it and I love myself.

While in the Christmas spirit, I would like to share a verse I read in a book which I was reading recently, Five Love Languages for Children. I'm not a Christian myself. But I find meaning in the verse. I hope that people who are confused, lost or lost love, will one day find themselves again. May the verse bring you hope, and light up your path in life.

Fear not, for I am with you.
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you.
Yes I will help you.
I will uphold you with My Righteous right hand.

A Crazy Christimas - Singapore Rojak!

Last Saturday, I went to watch A Crazy Christmas with an schoolmate at the Drama Centre (inside National Library). I had a great evening.

I have a lot of fun and was humming and Singapore to all the familiar Christmas tunes. Love is in the air for me even as a single girlie now.

Back to the musical carol. The Dream Academy team did themselves another wonder. The comedy show by each of the performer, coupled with their wonderful singing, was quite a thrill. You can most definitely feel that Christmas is in the air. Salute to Hossan Leong and Sebastian Tan! Well done!

Now I'm waiting to go watch Dim Sum Dollies. It will be a wonderful birthday treat for myself. I'm looking forwards to a wonderful 2009 already! Woohoo!!
